Lee Corso’s “College GameDay” quip about a Week 4 matchup did not go over well with one of the referenced teams.

Washington State’s clash with Oregon State was one of the games featured in Saturday’s picks segment. The 2 programs are the only 2 members of the current Pac-12 that have not joined a new conference for 2024 and beyond.

Corso made a quip about the situation when the matchup was mentioned. WSU coach Jake Dickert interpreted Corso’s comment as the “No One Watches Bowl.”

After Wazzu defeated OSU, Dickert ripped into Corso in his postgame comments.

“I don’t really understand that,” Dickert said. “The facts say people watch the Cougs. And people watch the Cougs more than every team that’s left over in the Big 12. Coach Corso, he’s at the point now where they give him the sheet, he reads off of it, and they try to make a joke, but it didn’t even make sense.

“It’s well-documented what ESPN has done to try to get our league to where it’s at. I would love to have a conversation with Coach Corso about the value that he sees in breaking up the premier West Coast conference. I would love to have a conversation with Coach Corso about how he thinks student-athletes and mental health and flying them all over the country is a positive thing. I’m open to those conversations because I’m fact-based on everything we do.

“I’ll say it again: We belong.”

Kirk Herbstreit has gone to bat for Corso. On social media, Herbstreit blasted Ryan Leaf for calling out Corso. Herbstreit implied that Corso called it the “No One Wants Us Bowl,” in relation to the programs not having a conference for next year.
