Leonard Fournette was in a giving mood on his 22nd birthday.
The future NFL ball-carrier returned to St. Augustine High School in New Orleans, his alma mater, for the first “BUGA 5” awards, in which he awards five teachers and coaches. The award is a trip to watch Fournette in a future NFL game and $1000.
As far as where Fournette will be playing in the NFL, he will find out in late April, when the draft starts on April 27. Fournette is projected to be a high first-round pick. CBS Sports currently ranks Fournette the No. 9 overall prospect.
Fournette and Under Armour plan to make the “BUGA 5” awards an annual event. Future awards will go to students and teachers.
“It’s a special moment. A lot of people don’t give back on the day they expect things to be given to them,” Fournette told The Times-Picayune’s Julie Boudwin. “Like I’ve said since high school, why not be different? That’s why I’m here.”
Fournette graduated from St. Augustine in 2014 and joined LSU later that year.
