Lloyd Avant scores Oklahoma’s first touchdown of the 2026 season

Lloyd Avant transferred to Oklahoma after playing last season at Colorado State. He was seen as a guy who could come to Norman and compete for a spot.
On Friday night, he made his presence felt immediately, rushing the ball six times for 38 yards on the first drive, capping it off with a one-yard touchdown — Oklahoma’s first score of the 2026 season.

Avant had a solid season last year for the Rams, as he finished with 90 carries for 417 yards and five touchdowns. One of the biggest issues for the Sooners last year was the rushing attack. Between the offensive line struggles and the running backs not playing great, quarterback John Mateer was forced to have to run the ball a lot more.
That was one of the biggest talking points for the Sooners, as they have to be able to rush the ball better if they want to take the next step and be a legitimate conteder in the SEC, as well as the College Football Playoff.
The game Friday night for the Sooners is big, as they hit the road in Week 2 to the ‘Big House’ to take on the Michigan Wolverines.
