LSU basketball releases statement regarding incoming guard transfer Jalen Cook
LSU basketball released a statement Wednesday regarding incoming guard transfer Jalen Cook.
Cook, a transfer from Tulane, was denied immediate eligibility. LSU has submitted additional information to the NCAA for reconsideration.
Here is the statement from LSU:
“LSU recently learned that the NCAA denied an immediate eligibility waiver for men’s basketball student-athlete Jalen Cook. Since then, we have submitted additional information to the NCAA for reconsideration and are awaiting their next ruling. We believe strongly in the merit of Jalen’s case for immediate eligibility upon his return to LSU, and we will continue to fight for him. We appreciate the NCAA’s emphasis on student-athlete wellness and mental health, and we thank them for their diligence and continued consideration of Jalen’s case.”
Cook, a junior, played his freshman season at LSU, not seeing much playing time for the Tigers. He then transferred to nearby Tulane where he emerged as a standout, averaging 19.9 points per game and 4.5 assists per game. Following his 2 breakout years, he returned to play for the Tigers.
The NCAA has thrown a wrench in Cook’s plans, but it seems like LSU will continue fighting for his eligibility.
