Players consider many factors when choosing either to stay in school or leave early for the NFL.

In the case of LSU cornerbackย Tre’Davious White, a rising senior, his stomach wasย partย of his decision.

As reported by the Shreveport Times, White said at SEC Media Days that the chance to eat without paying a penny is valuable to him.

โ€œI came back because of the opportunity to eat for free,โ€ White toldย the Shreveport Times. โ€œIโ€™m serious. We get to eat for free.โ€

He’s right. The NCAA passed legislation in spring 2014 allowing for all-you-can-handle snacks and meals for student-athletes.ย As the Shreveport Times points out, there’s also about $300 a month available to student-athletes with the new cost of attendance rules.

โ€œWeโ€™re taken care of here,โ€ White told the newspaper. โ€œFree food. We really donโ€™t have to pay for a lot of stuff. I love that.โ€

Many projected White, who had 44 tackles and served as a punt returner last season, to be a first-round pick if he had made himself eligible for the NFL draft. He has a chance to become the first member of his family to graduate from college, so his education means a great deal to him.

But don’t underestimate the pull of free food.
