This week, LSU coach Ed Orgeron was caught off-guard when players didn’t show up for a scheduled practice session.

He then learned the players were involved in a march against social injustice taking place on campus. Once he learned of what was going on, Coach O did everything he could to support his players.

On Saturday morning’s episode of College GameDay on ESPN, Coach O joined host Rece Davis to discuss the “eye-opening” week many have had at LSU:

“It was eye-opening to me, because I haven’t experienced the things that they’re experiencing,” he said. “I had a great talk with (Seattle Seahawks) Coach (Pete) Carroll, who is one of my mentors. It’s time for myself and our coaches to be leaders. This social injustice got to go. Racism got to go. It’s time for us to support our players any which way we can. They know I totally support them. We’ve had speakers this week. We’ve had talks. We’ve had leadership council. We’re going to do things as a team to show that we support everything that is going on for our football players.”

Similar marches have taken place on many campuses around the country. Even as we move toward the start of the season for many schools, social protests will likely continue moving forward.
