LSU confirms Clemson season-opener as most credentialed game in Tiger Stadium history

Week 1 of the 2026 college football season has finally arrived, and there is an absolutely loaded slate of action on deck that is sure to keep fans across the country glued to their TVs all weekend long.
For many, the most anticipated game of this action-packed Labor Day weekend is the primetime showdown between No. 11 LSU and Clemson under the lights in Baton Rouge on Saturday night, in what will be Lane Kiffin’s first contest as head coach of the Bayou Bengals.
Fans aren’t the only ones getting hyped up to see this clash of the Tigers, though, as ESPN’s Marty Smith reported on Wednesday that this Week 1 showdown has been confirmed as the most credentialed game in the history of Tiger Stadium.
Smith says that the university itself confirmed that more media members and celebrities have been granted credentials to attend the heavyweight bout than ever before.
Much of this obviously has to do with the effect Kiffin has had on both LSU and the wider college football world over the past year or so. Love him or hate him, nobody draws attention in the sport like the former Ole Miss head coach, and that’s exactly what he’s brought to his new program.
It will be interesting to see whether the Lane Train gets off to a roaring start in Baton Rouge, or if Dabo and Clemson can derail it right out of the station by pulling off a massive Week 1 upset.
