New LSU coach Lane Kiffin may still be scouring the country for a transfer quarterback, but the Tigers did land an edge rusher Sunday to complement the defense – as South Alabama linebacker Achilles Woods reportedly is set to head to Baton Rouge.

On3 reported that Woods will stay within the feline family by transferring from the Jaguars to the Tigers – giving Kiffin and LSU 19 incoming transfer players.

Woods, a 6-foot-3, 289-pounder from Decatur, Ala., will have three years of eligibility remaining. He appeared in one game as a true freshman in 2024, playing against Southern Miss. In 2025, Woods appeared in all 12 South Alabama games – making 11 tackles (four solo) with a sack and a quarterback hurry.

South Alabama went 4-8 overall and 3-5 in the Sun Belt West in 2025, a campaign that included a six-game losing streak.

Kiffin took over at LSU on Nov. 30 after a tumultuous late-season saga that saw him also pursued by Florida and Florida State while still coaching Ole Miss to the cusp of its first-ever College Football Playoff berth. He replaced Brian Kelly, who was fired midseason.

Kiffin ultimately chose the Tigers and was immediately replaced by former defensive coordinator Pete Golding, a first-time head coach who coached the Rebels to CFP victories against Tulane and Georgia before falling to Miami in the Fiesta Bowl Playoff semifinals.
