New LSU head coach Lane Kiffin has been hard at work over the past couple of months building his new staff down in Baton Rouge, with the defensive side of the ball receiving the bulk of his attention after much of his previous defensive staff elected to remain at Ole Miss following his departure.

Kiffin made several impressive hires while also retaining several key staffers from Brian Kelly’s staff on defense, but it looks like he will once again be forced to search for another assistant to fill a crucial role on that side of the ball.

According to a report by CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, current Bayou Bengals’ safeties coach Jake Olsen is expected to make the jump to the NFL ranks and join the Washington Commanders.

A seasoned defensive assistant, Olsen spent the past 2 seasons in Baton Rouge as the safeties coach on Kelly’s staff, helping the Tigers finish as one of the top 25 passing defenses in the country in 2025.

Before joining LSU, Olsen spent 2 seasons as the linebackers coach at Missouri and had several prior stops at various programs, including Nicholls State, Louisiana-Monroe, and Southwestern Oklahoma State.

Getting Olsen to stay on board at LSU was a massive win for Kiffin, and it now looks like he’ll be forced to fill his spot heading into spring workouts.
