LSU honors Jerry Stovall with helmet decal for Week 1 against Clemson

LSU football lost a legend this past week, as former star running back Jerry Stovall passed away at 85 years old.
Before the Week 1 game against Clemson, the Tigers’ football team announced on social media that they would be honoring Stovall with a helmet decal.
Stovall was a star running back for the Tigers, as he played at LSU from 1960 to 1962. He had big shoes to fill, as he was replacing another LSU legend, running back Billy Cannon.

His best year was in 1962, when he won the Walter Camp Memorial Trophy, which was given to the best running back in the country. He finished second in the Heisman Trophy race that season, and ended up being selected by the St. Louis Cardinals with the No. 2 pick in the 1963 NFL Draft.
He played nine seasons in the NFL, finishing with 18 interceptions.
Stovall returned to LSU in 1980, this time as the head coach. He spent four seasons as the coach, finishing with a record of 22-21-2. He was the athletic director at Louisiana Tech from 1990 to 1994, and then moved to the CEO of the Baton Rouge Area Sports Foundation.
