LSU is gearing up for its 2025 season and looking to improve a defense that was among the worst in SEC football each of the past 2 seasons. Over the weekend, the Tigers landed a key piece to help beef up the secondary and improve the unit.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, LSU landed a commitment from former Houston safety AJ Haulcy. The standout performer was choosing between the Tigers and Miami for his next destination, and Brian Kelly landed the key contributor.

Haulcy has made an impact at every destination in his career, beginning his college football journey at New Mexico with 87 tackles, 3 TFL, 2 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles as a freshman in 2022. He spent the past 2 seasons at Houston, where he tied for the Big 12 lead with 5 interceptions in 2024. He was also among the Big 12 leaders with 8 passes defended.
For his career, Haulcy has 7 interceptions, 15 pass breakups and 259 total tackles. He has been one of the most consistent and productive safeties during his time in college football.
Upon entering the transfer portal, Haulcy received a 4-star rating from 247 Sports. He was among the top remaining players in the portal at the time of his commitment.
