Mark Sanchez has formally been charged with 3 misdemeanors in connection with an incident on Saturday in Indianapolis in which the former NFL quarterback and current FOX Sports broadcaster was stabbed and then taken to a hospital.
The 38-year-old former USC star has been charged with battery with injury, public intoxication and unlawful entry of a vehicle. The announcement on Sunday morning by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office also revealed that an initial hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday morning at 8:30 ET, with bond set at $300.
This incident should never have happened,” Marion County prosecutor Ryan Mears said in a statement on Sunday. “What began as a disagreement between a 38-year-old former professional athlete and a 69-year-old man should not have escalated into violence or left anyone seriously injured. As with any case, we will follow the facts and the law wherever they lead.
Indianapolis police arrested Sanchez while he was in the hospital on Saturday. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office said on Saturday that it would make the “final charging decision” in the case, and now that has taken place.
Sanchez was in Indianapolis this weekend because he was supposed to be the color analyst for FOX’s broadcast of the game between the Indianapolis Colts and Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
