Rhett Lashlee made headlines this look when he said that the SEC lacks depth. Mark Stoops says the SMU coach doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
Lashlee took aim at the SEC during his Tuesday appearance at ACC Media Days.
The SEC has had the same six schools win the championship since 1964,” Lashlee said. “Not a single one has been different since 1964. “That’s top-heavy to me. That’s not depth.
On Wednesday, Stoops responded to Lashlee, inviting him to take on the SEC grind during an interview on with “Unsportsmanlike with Evan, Canty, and Michelle.”
“Absolutely it’s deep. If he wants to take a crack at it, come on. Strap it on and come try it because I can promise you it’s not easy,” the Kentucky head coach said. “I didn’t hear that or read that quote or anything until you just told me that, but I can tell you that I think anybody with any common sense can look at college football, and look at our conference, and know what it’s all about.”
For now, Rashlee is gearing up for an ACC schedule. Plenty of fans would like the storyline of SMU facing an SEC team in the postseason.
