Mark Stoops gets called out by fan on his radio show and fires right back
It’s one thing to receive flack from afar, but it’s another thing to be blasted about your profession to your face.
Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops appeared on his weekly radio show this past Monday. Taking calls from 13 fans, there were quite a few that didn’t hold back for their distaste over the current state of the program.
One criticized Stoops over his decision to hire offensive coordinator Eddie Gran. Another caller felt the need to judge Stoops for his inability to develop players once they got to Lexington.
The most peculiar call came from an individual named Benny:
โIโm sure youโre a good football coach and I think youโre going to do fine at some point, but personally I would love to see a Tommy Tuberville whoโs already coached in the SEC come to Kentucky.”

Stoops kept his cool and told the caller to “get on those message boards. Get on the Twitter. Thereโs a lot of people out there that have got a lot of opinions.”
He then added some perspective on his future with the program, and what he plans on doing:
“Like I said earlier, in all seriousness at some point the great fans that we have weโve got to get everybody on the same page. Weโve got to get positive. You donโt even need to throw criticism, Iโll run myself over with a bus when we donโt play well and fully admit it, but weโve got to get people on the same page and youโve got to get positive. This has been going on for our history a little bit, right? So weโve got to change it. Weโve got to have everybody on the same page, pulling in the same direction. And weโre going to do this. Iโm not discouraged one bit. Weโre going to keep on plugging.”
