Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall was โ€œvery regretfulโ€ and teary-eyed when issued a citation on Friday for less than one ounce of marijuana when pulled over in Reynolds, Georgia, according to WRBL.com. The news site spoke directly with Reynoldsโ€™ chief of police Lonnie Holder.

โ€œHe was very regretful. He was very respectful. He was very apologetic,โ€ said Holder. โ€œHe seemed like he was disappointed in himself. He did get a little teary eyed as we had the conversation. I think sometimes what those kids need, they need somebody to talk to them and say, hey, you made a mistake, don’t let it happen anymore.โ€

Marshall was initially pulled over by Holder for illegal window tinting.

โ€œI explained to Nick that I was really disappointed in him. I told him that there are a million kids that look up to him. He is a role model whether he wants to be or not. I was disappointed that we have athletes out there doing that. I explained to him that we are not going to treat him any differently. I was disappointed in him. I hope he learns from his mistake and this puts him on the right path.”

Head coach Gus Malzahn released a statement on Friday expressing how disappointed he was in his senior quarterback. Marshall is scheduled to appear Monday at SEC Media Days in Hoover, Alabama. Since the citation and Malzahnโ€™s statement, speculation has been rampant as to whether Marshall will be in Hoover or not.

Worked in online, print, TV and radio. Bobby Valentine once wore a pair of my socks for 8 hours. In an awkward exchange, he handed them back to me to which they were immediately deposited in a trash can.
