Matt Luke offers insight on Ole Miss playing against Arkansas in Little Rock

Matt Luke has only faced Arkansas in Little Rock once, but the Ole Miss head coach knows all about the series history at that venue.
The Rebels (4-2, 0-2 SEC) and Razorbacks (1-5, 0-3) will meet there at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, and Luke was asked during Wednesday’s SEC Coaches Teleconference about playing the game at that neutral site. This will be the 16th meeting between the SEC West rivals in Little Rock, with the most recent one coming in 2012, Luke’s first year as offensive line coach and co-offensive coordinator at Ole Miss.
Luke spoke about Little Rock and a few other subjects during the teleconference, and you can read his responses below:
On the 2012 Ole Miss-Arkansas game in Little Rock:
- I remember bussing over, and we will do that again. I remember winning on a field goal at the end. We will go over on Friday night. We don’t have anyone that has played there. It gets loud, so we will work crowd noise. At night, should be a good one.
On the history of this game in Little Rock
- Yeah, I know it well. It does have some good history and some wild games have been played there. It should be a good game.
On RB Scottie Phillips:
- He’s done well to maximize his opportunities. He’s done a great job. He’s shifty, he’s explosive. We knew it would be tough to replace Jordan Wilkins, a 1,000-yard rusher, but he’s done a nice job.
On Arkansas’ quarterback situation, how has Ty Storey progressed?
- You can see Ty’s progression; I think a lot of him. He takes shots and keeps going. The players play hard for him, I can tell. I’ve never met him, but he seems like a leader. Cole (Kelley’s) size is a weapon down near the goal line.
On playing in Little Rock:
- Fayetteville has always been tough to me. I’ve only been to Little Rock, once but that was tough too. … It’s strange that both teams travel for this one, but we anticipate a great environment in this game.
