Matt Stinchcomb acknowledges the offensive coordinator turnover at Auburn, and the moving parts between transfers, returning players and young players who are still unproven.

So assessing the Auburn quarterback situation is a bit tricky, and conventional wisdom does not always win out. But during a segment on the SEC Network, Stinchcomb projected how it would play out between Zach Calzada, TJ Finley and Robby Ashford.

“You would think it would be Calzada,” Stinchcomb said of the Texas A&M transfer who beat Auburn and Alabama last season. “I think ultimately it’ll be Zach Calzada, he’s got some starting experience albeit forced under pressure, kind of under duress to be a starter for A&M a season ago.”

Stinchcomb’s projection would be a surprise given multiple reports that Finley has taken a lead in the competition, and Calzada has slipped to No. 3 in the competition.

Calzada last season dislocated his shoulder against Auburn, and he had offseason shoulder surgery that prevented him from joining Auburn’s spring competition.

Calzada is perhaps most remembered for his performance last season in a 41-38 upset of Alabama when threw for 285 yards and 3 touchdowns against the Tide.
