Matthew Stafford trade rumors are heating up as the LA Rams wait to see what the future holds for their star quarterback. Stafford, a former Georgia star and the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, led the Rams to the Super Bowl LVI title.
Now his future with the Rams is murky. Stafford has received permission to talk with other NFL teams, and according to insider Albert Breer, several are showing interest.
As the NFL world descends on Indianapolis this week for the NFL Combine, the people needed to get deals done will all be together, so we’ll see if we get any movement on the Stafford front before we flip our calendars to March.
Per Breer, at least 4 NFL teams are expected to have interest in the future Hall of Famer:
During the week leading up to Super Bowl LIX, Stafford’s camp got permission from the Rams to talk to other teams—so his reps have already had two weeks to test the market and see who’d be willing to give up trade compensation and a big, new contract to land the 37-year-old star. It’s only steeled belief that, given the changing conditions of quarterback cost, he should be among the nine signal-callers now on deals averaging over $50 million per year.
“The teams you’d suspect would have their hat in the ring have, indeed, thrown their hats in the ring. The New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, Las Vegas Raiders and others have shown interest.
Of those teams, only the Steelers made the playoffs last year. Would Stafford really leave a playoff team for one of those struggling franchises?
We’ll see what happens as this NFL offseason marches on.
