Mayors of Auburn and Tuscaloosa make friendly wager ahead of Iron Bowl

As the state of Alabama readies itself for Saturday afternoon’s Iron Bowl game, the mayors of Auburn and Tuscaloosa have made their yearly wager on the game.
Since 2011, the wager has been for $100 to be paid by the losing mayor to a charity of the winning mayor’s choice.
This year, Tuscaloosa mayor Walter Maddox will donate $100 to the Food Bank of East Alabama if the Crimson Tide lose. If the Tigers lose, Auburn mayor Bill Ham Jr. will donate $100 to the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative.
Both mayors are happy to use the college football rivalry to help give back to their communities, according to OANow.com:
“It’s such a big game whether it’s in Tuscaloosa or Auburn…and it means so much to both of our communities” Ham said. “It’s just a little added competitive spirit, and I’m really glad that we, even though it’s not a lot of money, that we do something to benefit a charity.”
“Throughout the year, Mayor Ham and I work together in a number of ways to serve our respective cities,” Maddox said in a press release. “This wager leverages that camaraderie to give back even more.”
The Iron Bowl will kick off at 2:30 p.m. Central time on Saturday afternoon. The game can be seen on CBS.
