Meechie Johnson had a strong scoring night for South Carolina on Saturday, scoring 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting as the Gamecocks cruised past The Citadel 71-55.

Saturday also included a personal milestone for Johnson: he became the program’s latest member of the 1,000-point club. He achieved the mark with 90 seconds left in the game. Here’s the video:

The Gamecocks, who moved to 7-3 with the win, are certainly glad to have Johnson back in the fold. He began his career at Ohio State in 2020 and spent two seasons there before transferring to South Carolina.

In 2022-23, he was the Gamecocks’ second-leading scorer with 12.7 points per game. He was then the team’s leading scorer in the 2023-24 season with 14.1 points per outing, being named second-team All-SEC in the process.

Johnson returned to Ohio State for the 2024-25 season but played in just 10 games before taking a leave of absence from the team. After receiving a sixth year of eligibility on a medical hardship waiver, he returned to Columbia. He’s picked up where he left off, averaging a team-high 15.5 points.

Johnson and the Gamecocks are back on the court on Tuesday as they visit archrival Clemson.
