Much of the craziness from the 2025 college football coaching carousel was sorted out over the past week, but a few job openings remain to be filled as teams gear up for the College Football Playoff and bowl season.

The Memphis Tigers are still looking for a new head coach after former head coach Ryan Silverfield was controversially hired as the next coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks.

The Tigers appear to be closing in on their guy, though, as ESPN insider Pete Thamel reported on Saturday morning that the program is closing in on a deal with current Southern Miss head coach and former Alabama assistant Charles Huff.

Huff is wrapping up his first season with the Golden Eagles after leading them to a 7-5 finish, and he also spent the 2021-2024 seasons as the head coach for the Marshall Thundering Herd, where he racked up a 32-20 overall record.

Before that, Huff spent 2 seasons under Nick Saban at Alabama as the Crimson Tide’s running backs coach and assistant head coach from 2019-2020, where he helped guide the program to a CFP National Championship in the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign.

Now, he appears to be taking another step up on his coaching journey by taking over a Memphis program that has been on the rise over the past several seasons.
