Miami’s defense came up with a huge play early in the fourth quarter against Notre Dame on Sunday night.

Notre Dame was down by just 7 points and was seeking to tie the game with a late touchdown drive. Miami had other plans.

Canes cornerback Damari Brown blew up a wide receiver screen pass from Notre Dame’s CJ Carr. Then, Miami’s Keionte Scott dove for the ball, only to miss it with his hands, but connect on the way down with his foot.

The ball then skipped back up into the air before falling into the arms of Miami edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. Here’s a replay of the wild sequence:

Bain’s big play made a big difference for the Hurricanes. Miami’s offense was unable to cash in with a touchdown drive, but the Canes did drain a field goal from 38 yards out to make it a 24-14 contest.

Miami is 8-18-1 all-time against the Fighting Irish. However, Notre Dame has not beaten the Canes in Miami since 1977.
