Miami landed a transfer commitment on Wednesday from former North Dakota State running back CharMar Brown, according to multiple reports.

Brown only just announced his entry into the transfer portal on Tuesday. The Omaha, Nebraska, native won an FCS national championship with the Bison last season while leading the rushing attack. The Huskers were also in the mix during his transfer recruitment. He’ll have 3 years of eligibility remaining at Miami.

Brown has a strong chance to be RB1 for the Hurricanes next season. As a redshirt freshman in 2024, he won the Jerry Rice Award as the top freshman in the FCS. He was a Freshman All-American and a Missouri Valley Conference second-team all-league selection. In 16 games, Brown led the Bison with 1,181 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns.

He became the first NDSU running back in 7 years to rush for 1,000 yards in a season and became just the sixth player in MVFC history to win the Newcomer of the Year and Freshman of the Year awards in the same year. Brown had 4 games with at least 100 rushing yards. He had a career day against Towson on Sept. 21, rushing for 126 yards and 3 scores on 24 carries.

According to PFF, Brown had 758 yards after contact and forced 51 missed tackles. His 89.5 rushing grade was the 10th-best among qualified FCS running backs.

Brown joins a running back room that also includes Mark Fletcher and Jordan Lyle. That duo exited spring ball as the presumptive top 2 options on the depth chart, though Brown’s addition could change that in fall camp. Fletcher was the primary backup to Damien Martinez last season, and he ran for 607 yards with 9 scores and a 5.4 yards per carry average. Lyle carried the ball 54 times for 400 yards and 4 scores.

As Miami looks to replace most of its offensive weaponry from last season, the backfield looks to be fully loaded.
