Many were excited to see Kentucky and Michigan face off in a huge non-conference basketball clash during the upcoming season. Those fans will now have to wait another year.
The Wildcats announced their non-conference basketball slate for the 2021-22 season on Monday, and noticeably absent was their highly anticipated matchup against the Wolverines. However, Kentucky addressed why that game wasn’t included on the schedule.
“Due to scheduling challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic, the previously scheduled Kentucky men’s basketball game at Michigan will not take place this season,” the school said in a statement (h/t Tyler Thompson of Kentucky Sports Radio). “We are in conversations with Michigan to preserve the series at a future date.”
Kentucky and Michigan are still scheduled to play at O2 Arena in London in December 2022, according to the Wolverines’ announcement, which also stated that “continued discussions are being made to reschedule” this year’s game.
