Mike Leach’s brutally honest nature means that he hasn’t been afraid to make pointed comments about his Mississippi State team, including its offensive line. The Bulldogs head coach has made no bones about the fact that he feels that the front 5 makes up the most important positions on a team.
After Saturday’s win over Arkansas, Leach had plenty of praise for his group up front, and for good reason: Will Rogers enjoyed plenty of time to throw the football as the o-line didn’t yield a sack to the Razorbacks. As the Commercial Dispatch’s Theo DeRosa notes, that’s 2 weeks in a row Rogers hasn’t been sacked.
“The biggest thing is they’re working together to improve,” Leach said on Monday. “They’re motivated. They take pride in finishing the game. I thought they had that good game last game. I think we can definitely get better. I think a little bit of depth is starting to emerge — not as much as we need.”
We’ll see if the offensive line for the Bulldogs can continue to take the next step forward on Oct. 15 as they travel to Kentucky in search of a 4th straight win.
