Mississippi State quarterback enters transfer portal, per report

Mike Leach appears to be losing a quarterback to the transfer portal, as former Southern Miss transfer Jack Abraham is looking for a new opportunity.
The news was reported by Matt Zenitz of On3 Sports.
This is not a complete surprise as Leach told reporters in October that Abraham was not with the team. Abraham, a product of Oxford High School in Mississippi, transferred from Southern Miss to MSU ahead of the 2021 season.
In 27 games at Southern Miss, Abraham was 595-of-859 (69.3 completion percentage) for 7,067 yards, 41 touchdowns and 29 interceptions.
Abraham did not see the field this past season, and he spent much of the season recovering from a June concussion. Abraham was expected to compete with Will Rogers and Chance Lovertich for the Bulldogs’ starting QB job, as 4-star recruit Sawyer Robertson was also in the mix at the time.
Abraham had a big spring game last year when he passed for 162 yards and 2 touchdowns, on a 23-for-34 performance. It was notable because Abraham’s team didn’t make a turnover, while Will Rogers’ team did twice, and Abraham’s team won the scrimmage.
But with Abraham’s departure, the Bulldogs will now have less competition at the position entering 2022.
Yet Rogers set single-season school records for passing yards (4,739) and TD throws (36) as he’s in line to follow Dak Prescott and Nick Fitzgerald as program legends for the Bulldogs.
