Mizzou only got one year out of Steve Wilks as defensive coordinator before he left the position for a job back in the NFL ranks.
Wilks is now a member of the Carolina Panthers’ coaching staff, leaving the Tigers in need of a new defensive coordinator prior to the 2022 season.
On Monday, Matt Zenitz of On3 Sports reported that Mizzou was expected to promote Blake Baker to defensive coordinator:
Missouri is expected to promote Blake Baker to defensive coordinator, sources tell @on3sports.
Baker, a former defensive coordinator at Miami and Louisiana Tech, was hired as Missouri’s safeties coach in late January.https://t.co/k5bN5NhJoE

Baker was a recent addition to the Tigers’ coaching staff, having only joined Eli Drinkwitz’s crew in January.
Baker was the LBs coach at LSU in 2021. He was Miami’s defensive coordinator from 2019 to 2020 and Louisiana Tech’s DC from 2015 to 2018.
