Former Mississippi State DE Montez Sweat saw his dreams come true Thursday night during the first round of the NFL Draft.
The Washington Redskins selected Sweat with the No. 26 overall pick in the first round.
The first thing that jumps out about Sweat is his ridiculous speed. At 6-foot-6, 260 pounds, Sweat shouldn’t be able to run a 4.41 40-yard dash. That’s faster than Odell Beckham Jr.’s 40-time. He’s going to be a nightmare off the edge in the NFL.
Sweat racked up an impressive 22.5 sacks during his MSU career, and he’s a plug-and-play-caliber of a prospect even in the NFL. Sweat’s measurables and tape scream top 10 pick.
What most folks don’t know is that Sweat originally played for Michigan State before winding up at Mississippi State. Most NFL Draft evaluators have compared him to Aldon Smith (on the field). Before his disastrous off-the-field life, Smith was a terror on it. That’s what most project Sweat to be.
Sweat is a former 3-star prospect and ranked as the nation’s No. 6 WDE and the state of Georgia’s No. 18 overall player in the class of 2017, per 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Sweat was invited to attend the NFL Draft, but he ultimately declined. He announced he would watch the first round with his family in Georgia. Sweat made sure to point out that his decision to not attend the NFL Draft didn’t have anything to do with his heart condition or his potential falling stock.
