The coaching fraternity is a tight-knit group of individuals trying to win at the highest level. When one coach gets relieved of their duties, it often can be disappointing for all involved — even the competitors.
Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen was the latest coach to be asked about the firing of former LSU head man Les Miles.
Without hesitating, Mullen went to bat for his former SEC West competitor. As he told The Clarion-Ledger, the timing of this dismissal seems questionable:
“I don’t know if it’s good for anybody,” Mullen said. “I just don’t. Having taken over some situations as an assistant and a head coach, you’ve got guys and there’s a lot of questions. Just the guys that are going out on Saturday. Is it that big a deal to do it right now? If you know there’s not going to be a future, I mean even for the guys on the team, it can wait until mid-November? I don’t know. I don’t see firing a coach this week or next week (helping).”
Everyone has an opinion on Les Miles’ firing and the timing of the termination.
