Nate Oats weighs in on Brandon Miller not earning SEC weekly awards
By Adam Spencer
Published:
Nate Oats and the Alabama Crimson Tide earned 2 big wins last week, thanks in large part to great performances by freshman forward Brandon Miller.
However, Miller didn’t win either the SEC Player of the Week (that went to Kentucky’s Oscar Tshiebwe) or the SEC Freshman of the Week (Nick Smith Jr. of Arkansas) awards.
Miller obviously had a bad week off the court, as he allegedly brought former teammate Darius Miles the gun that Michael Davis allegedly used to fatally shoot Jamea Harris on Jan. 15. His pregame celebration on Saturday also drew the scorn of many fans and media members.
On Tuesday, Oats discussed the perceived snubs of Miller, saying he’s sure more awards are in Miller’s future:
#Alabama HC Nate Oats on Brandon Miller not receiving accolades from the SEC this week:
"That's a really good question. He obviously had a really good week. […] In our league, they've got to make tough decisions every week."
"I'm sure he'll get awards moving forward."

What’s next for Brandon Miller?
The Tide are going to need more big performances from Miller this week and into the SEC Tournament, where they can clinch a No. 1 seed with 1 more win or a Texas A&M loss.
Alabama plays host to rival Auburn on Wednesday night and travels to College Station to play Texas A&M in a huge Saturday showdown. We’ll see if Miller can match his 65-point week from a week ago while also managing to avoid any additional negative headlines off the floor.
