Auburn lost a key piece of its 2016 puzzle late Wednesday when Tampa (Fla.) Catholic five-star wide receiver Nate Craig-Myers called coach Gus Malzahn to inform him of his decommitment.

Several recruiting services including 247Sports reported the news, an early blow to one of the nation’s top classes.

โ€œI just want to thank the Auburn coaching staff for the opportunity and seeing the potential in me. But I have decided to open up my recruitment,โ€ Craig-Myers told 247Sports.

Last week, Baylor assistant Kendal Briles visited Craig-Myers. The Bears and Florida State are believed to be out front for the elite wideout’s services, though he claims there are no favorites.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Craig-Myers is the nation’s top-ranked wide receiver and the 23rd best player overall.
