The NCAA has sent a letter of inquiry to Cincinnati regarding former quarterback Brendan Sorsby, the topic of conversation for much of the 2026 offseason thus far.

Sorsby will not play this season after admitting to betting on sports while an active member of Indiana and Cincinnati football teams. Sorsby, who would have started for Texas Tech in 2026, was deemed ineligible for the season but later granted an injunction in a Lubbock County court, making him eligible once again. Following backlash and threats of litigation from the Big 12 and the rest of the country, Texas Tech and Sorsby mutually agreed to part ways in June.

Obviously, it’s a major violation if Cincinnati did in fact know about Sorsby’s impermissible betting. And according to ESPN, Sorsby’s agent Ron Slavic accused Cincinnati of knowing about Sorsby’s betting for two years in an interview with Dallas radio station 105.3 The Fan.

In a statement Wednesday via Yahoo! Sports, a Cincinnati spokesperson insisted the program had no knowledge of Sorsby’s impermissible wagers while he was a member of the team.

“We have had continuous conversations with the NCAA since the initial reports related to impermissible sports wagering began,” the statement read. “As we have stated before, we do not believe any athletics official or staff member was aware of any impermissible sports wagering.”
