A new court ruling has once again altered eligibility status for dozens of student-athletes.
On Friday morning, the Tenth Circuit granted the NCAA’s stay request in Wisne vs. the NCAA, effectively removing a blanket waiver for all class of 2022 athletes to be eligible for the upcoming year.
That decision is expected to be met with an appeal, but for now, 5th-year seniors who exhausted their college eligibility in 2025-26 no longer have protection at the federal level.
However, many 2022 athletes could still be eligible for 2026-27 by way of rulings in state courts. For example, recent Oklahoma basketball additions like Duke Brennan and BJ Edwards are still set to be eligible for the upcoming season.
On the other side of the coin, Louisville commit Seth Trimble is not currently party to any state-level lawsuits and therefore is currently ineligible to play for the Cardinals this upcoming season.
There remains no timetable for a consistent eligibility ruling even as college football season is set to begin in a matter of days.
