Cam Newton battling it out for NFL’s best-selling jersey heading into 2020 season
It didn’t take long for Cam Newton to earn the starting role in New England and be selected as a team captain with the Patriots.
Following those announcements, the jersey for New England’s new starting quarterback began flying off the shelves.
The only other player that’s sold more this offseason? Ironically, that would be New England’s former starting quarterback.
With Tom Brady now in Tampa Bay, the jersey for the Bucs new starting quarterback has also been a hot item for NFL fans and with the 2020 NFL season set to begin in just a few hours, the difference between the two jersey sales are less than 50 according to Fanatics owner Michael Rubin.
@TomBrady and @CameronNewton battling it out for top NFL jersey this week– I’ve never seen it this close! Excited for NFL to be back – let’s go!! Ps who ends up with #1 selling jersey after the weekend? pic.twitter.com/z2N0vciJ5i

That’s a remarkable stat shared by the Fanatics owner but not the only interesting nugget surrounding Newton heading into the upcoming NFL season.
Check out this one from ESPN Stats & Info:
Cam Newton will be the 1st QB to start for the Patriots, that wasn't drafted by them, since 1993.
That will snap the Patriots streak of 423 straight starts made by homegrown QB, which is nearly double the next-closest streak in the Super Bowl era(227 – Cowboys). H/T @EliasSports pic.twitter.com/jgk3UlYMAL
