Nick Saban explains why he doesn’t think a longer season is a good idea

There has been some talk about adding an extra bye week to the college football season, making it a 14-week season instead of the current 13.
The idea behind it is that players could use an extra week of rest, but Alabama coach Nick Saban doesn’t think that’s a good plan.
During his Wednesday press conference, Saban said he thinks making the season longer would do more harm than good for players:
Saban: "Seems like everybody wants to have 14wek season where you have 2 byes. I don't think making season longer is good for the players."

There could be a way to fix the current system that would make all parties happy. Perhaps instead of having conference championship games during the first weekend of December, they should happen during the second week of December to make room for an extra bye week.
However, that would likely spill over into finals week for many students, so it’ll be interesting to see if anything happens to the schedule in the coming years.
