Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide pulled off the 24-10 victory over Ole Miss on Saturday, and after the game, the Crimson Tide head coach went into detail about the blocked punt from the SEC clash.
โYou see they are in a 3-man shield, which means they have to zone, and the whole idea is to get four guys on their 3 guys,โ Saban said. โNow they are backed up, so we are going to take 22 and scan over here, we didnโt think the center could block 34, and theyโll block these two guys. So, 17 is always a threat because of his speed, so we try to use and drop him. We roll the corner, youโll see the corner come off and get 15โs eyes. And we are going to bring 7 up through this gap right here, and when these guys block these guys, heโs going to come right through here because we got guys eating up the shield, youโre going to be able to see how we blocked this punt.โ

Saban continued to break town the technical nuances of the play.
โThe key to it is 7, heโs the guy we are really trying to get free, you see 20โs not even rushing the punt. Heโs trying to make sure that they canโt block down on 7. Alright, 28 is eating this guy up, so 22 is stemming over so that uses up a shield guy, 34 uses up a shield guy, we got the corner rolling so you see what 15 is looking at, so the whole design is to get 7 free. This is not the first punt heโs blocked.โ
But anyone that watched the game knows Alabama wasnโt able to get the ball in the end zone despite the great field position, and Saban acknowledged that at the end.
โSo while it was a big play in the game, we got it first and 1 at the 1, and we didnโt do great with it, but hey at least we got it at the 1.โ
