“I’m excited to welcome Gavin to the Nole Family,” Mike Norvell said in a released statement. “He brings experience and versatility and has played in big games. He can stretch the field vertically with speed and has also proven to be a good route runner with the ability to separate from defenders. Gavin was productive early in his career before having to deal with injuries and setbacks throughout his journey. He will bring a veteran presence to our talented wide receivers room.”
Blackwell heads to Tallahassee after 4 seasons in Chapel Hill. He used a redshirt in 2021, appearing in only 1 game.
The 2022 and ’23 seasons were most productive for Blackwell. In 2022, Blackwell played in 13 games, recording 18 catches for 239 yards and 1 touchdown. The following season, he played in 11 games, recording 9 catches for 166 yards.
As Norvell referenced, Blackwell was limited in 2024. He played in only 4 games for the Tar Heels, finishing the season with 4 catches for 43 yards.
