Notre Dame fans taunt Kirby Smart with ‘We want Georgia’ during College GameDay interview
Notre Dame fans are making their wishes abundantly clear for the College Football Playoff this season.
College GameDay is on location in South Bend on Friday afternoon ahead of the first-ever home CFP game. Georgia coach Kirby Smart was interviewed (via video call) during the show, but the Fighting Irish faithful were the ones who sent the clearest message.
Notre Dame fans could be heard in the background chanting “We want Georgia” during Smart’s interview. Here’s a clip from the show:
“They gotta worry about their first game first, that’s for sure,” Smart said in response.
Notre Dame will battle Indiana at 8 p.m. ET on Friday night. The winner, of course, will move on to face Smart’s Bulldogs in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff.
Georgia earned a first-round bye after it beat Texas in overtime of the SEC Championship Game earlier this month. However, the Bulldogs are not expected to be at full strength when they suit up in the quarterfinals. Carson Beck, who suffered an elbow injury in the SEC title game, is not expected to play in the next round for UGA due to the injury, according to multiple reports.
Should Notre Dame beat the Hoosiers and advance to the next round, the Fighting Irish may be small favorites in the betting markets over UGA. FanDuel currently has the line for a “hypothetical” matchup between Notre Dame and Georgia set at Notre Dame -1.5 (bet voids if the matchup does not occur).
Georgia is 3-0 all-time against Notre Dame.
