Notre Dame QB CJ Carr lights up social media after lighting up Arkansas
His receivers were open often. The defense he was facing wasn’t very interested in tackling. But take nothing away from Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr. He was superb in the first half against Arkansas on Saturday.
The redshirt freshman quarterback completed 16 of his 22 passes for 294 yards and 4 touchdowns. And, no, that’s not his final stat line. That was all in just the first half.
Well… It might be his final stat line. Notre Dame led the Razorbacks 42-13 at the break after dropping 28 points in the second quarter. At the rate the Razorbacks are trending, Carr might not need to play much in the second half.
Notre Dame had 420 yards of offense in the opening stanza. The Irish committed 1 penalty, went 3-for-4 on third down, averaged 10.2 yards per play, and did not allow a single tackle for a loss.
At the controls of the bulldozer was Carr, who set a new career-high for both passing yards and touchdown passes in the first half. And even though he had plenty of help from the guys around him, folks on social media were singing his praises all throughout the first half.
Notre Dame, some said, might have its best quarterback in recent memory.
Derek Peterson does a bit of everything, not unlike Taysom Hill. He has covered Oklahoma, Nebraska, the Pac-12, and now delivers CFB-wide content.
