Ross Bjork didn’t waste any time reaching out to the SEC office and Commissioner Greg Sankey after the way the Ole Miss-Vanderbilt game unfolded.
The athletics director tweeted on Sunday that he spoke with Sankey Saturday night and earlier Sunday, as he and coach Matt Luke spoke with the SEC’s supervisor of officials.
The Rebels were down by seven during the first overtime period before Brown came down with a touchdown catch to that would have tied the game, pending an extra point. Brown clearly controlled the ball, went to the ground, hitting his back on the field before having the ball taken away by the Vanderbilt defender while both laid on the ground in the end zone.
The score was reviewed and following a lengthy review, the officials overturned the call. Ole Miss failed to score on the next play, which gave Vanderbilt a 36-29 win in overtime.
This is the latest example of a controversial decision by SEC officials this season, so it’ll be interesting to see if the SEC makes any changes in the offseason.
