College football players helping out in the community is a regular occurrence, but even as common as it’s become, the very act inspired a woman to support the Rebels on Thursday night in the Egg Bowl.
Earlier this week, Emily DeLoach Gatlin relayed a scene she saw an a Walmart in Oxford where star WR A.J. Brown who appeared to need help in the soup aisle. Then a host of other players had cranberry sauce and vegetables.
“They were so full of joy, and I couldn’t help but ask one of them if they were having their own Thanksgiving together,” she wrote. “No ma’am. This is for a few Oxford families in need.”
The Egg Bowl has a unique position on the college football schedule as it sits on Thanksgiving night. Gatlin was aware that the Rebels spent their Thanksgiving away from their families so that fans could spent it with their own.
“Think about that on Thursday night,” she wrote. “And show up for them.”
Ole Miss and Mississippi State have each won 14 Egg Bowls since 1990, but the Rebels have won four out of the past six. Mississippi State (7-4) is trying to upgrade its possible bowl destination, while Ole Miss (5-6) is trying to finish with a .500 record.
