Now that LSU’s football season is complete following a 38-35 loss to Houston in the Texas Bowl, Tigers interim coach Frank Wilson is officially on the move.
Wilson, who took over LSU’s head coaching spot on an interim basis when Brian Kelly was fired, was officially named the senior associate head coach/running backs coach at Ole Miss.
Wilson’s move from Baton Rouge to Oxford was first reported Dec. 16 in the wake of former Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin taking the LSU job. Oxford was previously home to Wilson, as he was the Rebels’ running backs and special teams coach from 2005 to 2007 under Ed Orgeron.
The return to Ole Miss is also a reunion for Wilson and new Rebels coach Pete Golding – who was Wilson’s defensive coordinator at UTSA in 2016 and 2017.
Wilson was previously LSU’s associate head coach, running backs coach, and recruiting coordinator from 2010 to 2015. After serving as head coach at McNeese State and then UTSA, Wilson returned to Baton Rouge to serve as associate head coach and running backs coach once more.
Wilson took over the Tigers program when Kelly was fired Oct. 26 during his fourth season at LSU. Kiffin was hired to replace Kelly on Nov. 29.
