Ole Miss posts Donte Moncrief-narrated hype video for revenge game against Kentucky
Ole Miss has probably had this game circled on its calendar since late September of last year, when it suffered one of the most excruciating losses of the Lane Kiffin era.
As the No. 6 team in the country and with College Football Playoff hopes in full force, Ole Miss came out flat at home, trailed 10-7 at halftime and ultimately paid for it in a 20-17 loss to unranked Kentucky. Suddenly, Ole Miss’s perfect season went up in smoke after a 4-0 start, as Kentucky got its first victory in Oxford since 1978. The Rebels nearly hung on, but the Wildcats scored the winning touchdown with 2:25 to go before Ole Miss missed a field goal with 48 seconds left to seal its fate.
It was the absolute worst way for Ole Miss to begin its SEC journey in 2024, dropping its conference opener as a top-10 team, at home, against an unranked team it knows it probably should’ve beaten. Now, almost a year later, the 20th-ranked Rebels get a chance at revenge in Lexington. It’ll come a little earlier this season, as the teams battle in Week 2 in a 3:30 p.m. ET matchup on ABC. So, the showdown will get the spotlight treatment in the SEC opener for both teams as Ole Miss tries to get to 2-0 and prevent Kentucky from beating the Rebels as a ranked team for the 2nd straight year.
As if Ole Miss fans yearning for a trip to the Playoff this time around weren’t pumped up enough, the Rebels football program’s social media account posted a hype video on Friday night that’s narrated by former Ole Miss wide receiver Donte Moncrief. He played at Ole Miss from 2011-13 and is now retired after a lengthy NFL career, but his passion for the Rebels burns brightly, as the 2-minute video shows:
When Saturday’s rematch is over, we’ll know if Ole Miss got past its Kentucky nemesis this time around or if lightning struck again against the Wildcats.
