Paige Shiver speaks with Good Morning America about affair with Sherrone Moore
In an interview on Good Morning America that aired Friday morning, former Michigan football staffer Paige Shiver described her relationship with ex-football coach Sherrone Moore as exploitative and an “open secret” within the Michigan athletic department.
Shiver said the University of Michigan didn’t do enough to protect her from Moore, whom she said she felt pressured by to continue their relationship.
“He controlled everything that was going on in my life,” she told ABC, “and they didn’t do anything about it.”
Shiver was an intern in 2022 when her relationship with Moore — described as consensual at the time — began. Moore was an offensive coordinator then. When he was promoted to head coach, Shiver was promoted to be Moore’s executive assistant.
Moore was fired by Michigan last December, days after Shiver broke off the relationship and told Michigan officials about it. Moore responded to his termination by driving to Shiver’s apartment and threatening to harm himself. Shiver said in Friday’s interview she feared for her life when he arrived at her home.
Last month, Moore was sentenced to 18 months’ probation and barred from having any contact with Shiver. Shiver told ABC the punishment should have been more severe.
“I don’t think it reflects what he did to me,” she told ABC News. “He took no accountability.”
During the interview on GMA, Shiver said members of Michigan’s coaching staff would ask Shiver to “calm [Moore] down” when he got too heated. She said Moore would use manipulation tactics whenever she tried to end the relationship.
“No one cared about my feelings. They wanted to use me to help him so that they could get through the season,” she said. “He and other coaches had control over my career, especially him. He could fire me in a second.”
Shiver also revealed that in 2022, she became pregnant with Moore’s child, but doctors advised her that the pregnancy would not be a healthy one. According to Shiver, Moore told her she “had to do what was right” for her.
In a statement to ABC News, U-M said it “promptly” terminated Moore once it discovered his relationship with Shiver and remains “committed to ensuring a professional and respectful workplace for all members of its community.”
