Paul Finebaum believes a United States Senate campaign would be a “slam dunk” move for former Alabama head coach Nick Saban.

Last week, it was revealed that President Donald Trump would give the commencement address to the graduating Class of 2025 at Alabama this spring. On Tuesday, the school announced that Saban will join Trump for that address. When AL.com sought a reaction to the news from Finebaum, the SEC Network host suggested Saban should run for a seat in Congress.

“I think Coach Saban would be a slam dunk,” Finebaum told AL.com. “Immediately, he would be among the best-known and influential individuals in Congress which would greatly enhance the state of Alabama.

“It would be a huge benefit to college football to have the greatest coach in history representing the sport at its most critical moment.”

Saban certainly wouldn’t be the first. Former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville has served as a US Senator from the state of Alabama since 2021.

“I have asked (Saban) about public office in past, and he has always said no,” said Finebaum, per AL.com. “But this feels like a different moment in time. I believe he will be with the one person who could have the most influence tonight – other than Miss Terry – and that is the President.

“Can you imagine if President Trump mentioned it at the commencement? I believe the crowd would go wild.”

Alabama’s commencement is scheduled to be held on Thursday, May 1, at Coleman Coliseum.
