Paul Finebaum breaks down CFP scenarios for Georgia, LSU after latest rankings reveal
The latest edition of the College Football Playoff rankings were released Tuesday night and as usual have sparked plenty of discussion and debate.
SEC fans, of course, are curious how many teams the conference might land in the CFP.
Georgia certainly looks like a lock, while Tennessee appears to be on the outside looking in after geittng demolished by South Carolina on Saturday.
But where do things stand for LSU?
On ESPN’s “First Take” on Wednesday morning, College Football Playoff scenarios were discussed at length, with analyst Paul Finebaum weighing in on the SEC.
With LSU up to No. 5 in the rankings, Finebaum said the Tigers now control their own destiny.
“Absolutely,” Finebaum said when asked if LSU gets in by winning out. “They’re sitting there at 5, (would have) a victory over Georgia. They’ll have a win over the No. 1 team in the country. They’ll also have a win over Alabama, which will be probably in the top 6, maybe a little bit higher depending on the chaos. I realize they lost the opener but the chairman said that’s not going to be held against them, a one-point loss against FSU. … The glaring problem on their resume is they lost at home by 27 to Tennessee.”
As for the Bulldogs, Finebaum added that they’ll be in even with a loss to the Tigers in the SEC Championship game.
“Georgia will be in,” Finebaum said. “They have Georgia Tech this weekend, so we’ll move past that game. I can’t even come up with a scenario (in which Georgia doesn’t get in). … I don’t think there’s going to be a debate.”
