Paul Finebaum has completely changed his outlook on Alabama in 2025. After watching the Crimson Tide fall at Florida State, the ESPN analyst says UA’s remaining schedule looks “incredibly daunting,” something he wouldn’t have said before the season.
“It was hard for me to believe Alabama could be that bad. But really, the issue is now beyond whether and how bad Alabama was,” Finebaum said Sunday on The Matt Barrie Show. “The issue is what happens, because that fanbase had bought in and now they’re in a selling mood.
“And what happens to Kalen DeBoer? He’s got a $70 million buyout. … He’s got Wisconsin in a couple of weeks. And then at the end of September, he goes to Georgia. Then it gets real. The schedule didn’t look all that daunting before the season. Now it looks incredibly daunting.”
There’s a lot of adjusting of expectations for Alabama this season. There were some notable shifts in the ESPN Football Power Index win probabilities for future games on the Crimson Tide. The FPI is currently giving UA a favorable win probability in 6 of its remaining regular-season games.
DeBoer’s squad has an opportunity to get in a tune-up before returning to Power 4 competition. The Crimson Tide host ULM on Saturday before Wisconsin visits Tuscaloosa in Week 3.
