Pete Golding confirms Kewan Lacy injury, praises ‘toughness’ against Miami
Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy played through a hamstring injury in the Rebels’ close loss to Miami in the Fiesta Bowl.
Head coach Pete Golding shed some light on Lacy’s injury after the game. Golding also commended Lacy for playing through it and gave credit to his entire team for the toughness they played with throughout this CFP run.
“He had a hamstring that they were going back and forth with for awhile,” Golding said in his postgame press conference. “These kids, there’s nobody in that locker room that’s not going to fight through it. There’s a difference between hurting and being injured. A lot of them were hurting, and a lot of them went out of the game, but they found their way back into the game. That’s what you have to do this time of year.
“… Really proud of all their toughness. I’ve said that all year. It’s a tough group. They’ve got competitive character. They love football. There’s not anybody in that locker room that you’re going to try to hold out of that game.”
Lacy scored a 75-yard touchdown early in the second quarter, but then didn’t return to the field until the second half. Lacy finished with 11 carries for 103 yards after only recorded 2 rushing attempts before suffering the injury.
Lacy is expected to return to Ole Miss in 2026 along with numerous other key players as the Rebels look to build upon what they accomplished this season.
