Every college football season, NFL scouts and executives from across the league conduct extensive evaluations of hundreds of players as they begin assembling their boards for the upcoming NFL Draft.

While every position plays an important role in a team’s overall success, quarterback consistently generates the most attention during each draft cycle, and for good reason. Finding a franchise quarterback can completely change the trajectory of a team, and the 2027 NFL Draft appears to have several potential difference-makers for teams to consider.

According to a poll conducted by ESPN insider Pete Thamel, however, one name has emerged as a clear favorite among NFL front offices: Oklahoma State gunslinger Drew Mestemaker.

Mestemaker has emerged as one of the biggest breakout stars in college football this season, becoming the centerpiece of first-year Oklahoma State head coach Eric Morris’ offense. His combination of size, arm strength and athleticism has taken the sport by storm, and NFL scouts have certainly taken notice.

According to Thamel, the Cowboys’ signal-caller received 17 votes as the top quarterback prospect in the poll, setting a new record during the three years ESPN has conducted the survey. That number is even more impressive considering Mestemaker received zero first-place votes when the poll was conducted back in August.

If Mestemaker continues to impress down the stretch of the regular season, it’s extremely likely he ends up hearing his name called first overall next April in Washington, D.C.
