President Donald Trump will reportedly be in attendance for Monday’s College Football Playoff National Championship between No. 1 seed Indiana and No. 10 seed Miami, according to Marc Caputo of Axios. Caputo notes that Secretary of State Marco Rubio will also attend the game with Trump.
Trump has attended numerous college football games in both of his terms as POTUS. Last month, Trump was in attendance for the Army-Navy game in Baltimore and performed the on-field coin toss.
The President is presumed to have a rooting interest in the game. His granddaughter, Kai Trump, has verbally committed to play golf at the University of Miami.
Rubio was born in Miami. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida in 1993 and graduated from the University of Miami law school in 1996. Rubio’s son, Anthony Rubio, has spent the past 3 seasons on the Florida football roster as a preferred walk-on running back.
Monday’s game will be played at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. Though Monday night’s national title showdown is ticketed as a neutral-site game, Hard Rock Stadium is the home field of the Hurricanes. UM campus is located in Coral Gables, a drive of approximately 25 miles.
The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET, airing on ESPN.
